Local attorney/water expert named to state Waterways Commission
Gov. Gretchen Whitmer has appointed Elaine Sterrett Isely to the Michigan State Waterways Commission.
Isely, of Grand Rapids, is the director of water programs for the West Michigan Environmental Action Council. She is also a licensed attorney in the state of Michigan. Isely is appointed to succeed Nicki Polan, whose term expires Sept. 18, to represent the general public, for a term commencing Sept. 19 and expiring Sept. 18, 2022.
The Michigan State Waterways Commission is responsible for the acquisition, construction, and maintenance of recreational harbors, channels, docking and launching facilities, and administration of commercial docks in the Straits of Mackinac.
The appointment is subject to advice and consent of the Senate.

Willey & Chamberlain LLP, a Grand Rapids law firm specializing in all aspects of criminal defense, has announced that Peter A. VanGelderen has become a partner in the firm.
VanGelderen’s criminal de-fense experience includes OWI offenses, drug offenses, federal RICO cases, fraud, white collar crime and violent crimes. He also handles license matters with the Michigan Secretary of State for those facing license consequences related to criminal activity.
VanGelderen earned a B.A. from the University of Michigan in history, with a minor in moral and political philosophy and his J.D., with distinction, from Thomas M. Cooley Law School.

Foster Swift GR and Southfield shareholders named Super Lawyers
Foster Swift shareholders Frederick D. Dilley and Julie I.
