Taking a closer look at new court rules

The Michigan Association for Justice presented a “Discovery Rules Evening Forum” for MAJ plaintiff attorney and paralegal members on Thursday, Sept. 26, at the Westin in Southfield. The Michigan Supreme Court recently adopted the State Bar’s proposed amendments to the civil discovery rules. The new rules, effective January 1, 2020, are modeled after the federal rules and are a comprehensive change to the civil discovery process in Michigan. Among the speakers at the forum was U.S. District Court Magistrate Judge Anthony Patti (pictured), Eastern District of Michigan, who provided “The Judicial Perspective—Effective Case Planning and Discovery Under the Revised Court Rules.” Also speaking at the forum were David E. Christensen of Christensen Law, Chad Engelhardt of Goethel Engelhardt PLLC and Judith Greenstone Miller of Jaffe, Raitt, Heuer, & Weiss PC.
