The Business Law Section of the State Bar of Michigan is holding its Business Boot Camp I Nov. 4-5 at Amway Grand Plaza in Grand Rapids and Jan. 30-31 in Plymouth for new business lawyers.
The two-day course serves as an expedited and informal “crash course” in topics designed to help business lawyers understand the types of situations they will face as they begin their practice.
Headlined by a list of Schulman Award-winning trainers Jeffrey Ammon from Miller Johnson, Timothy Damschroder from Bodman PLC and Daniel Minkus from Clark Hill PLC, organizers say the events will help lawyers develop confidence, attract clients and impress partners.
It gives attendees the opportunity to network with the trainers and other new business law colleagues while learning the secrets of successful practitioners.
A number of time-tested, proven forms and materials that can be put to use immediately with a practice will be made available to each student, according to the State Bar.
Specific topics include Choice of Entity, Forming an LLC Including Operating Agreements, Shareholder Buy/Sell and Voting Agreement, Commercial Loan Transactions, Business Valuations and Appraisals, Personal Property/Article 9/Creditors Rights, Supply Agreements and Insurance and Coverage Issues.
“We really try to cover a number of topics in a way that many new lawyers weren’t taught in law school,” said Minkus, one of the Business Boot Camp founders. “It’s really one of the best ways to get a head start in your practice. We encourage new business lawyers consider attending because it helps them better understand significant legal topics.”
The Business Boot Camp was first established in 2001 and has been held at various locations throughout Lower Michigan.
Tickets are $220 for current lawyers and $80 for law school students.
Discounts are available with early registration.
Business Boot Camp II will be held in November of 2020 in Grand Rapids and in January of 2021 in Plymouth.
Topics at Business Boot Camp II will include Stock Options and Other Equity-Based Compensation, Select M & A – Negotiated Acquisitions, Non-Profit Organizations, Executive Employment Agreements and Employment Law, Intellectual Property, Understanding Financial Statements, Real Estate, and Environmental.
