Goodman Acker to help with holiday ‘giveaway’
Rev. Wendell and Lady Monica Anthony of Fellowship Chapel have made Thanksgiving turkey dinner giveaways a tradition for the last 30 years, providing more than 20,000 dinners.
Now, Goodman Acker PC of Southfield is becoming part of the tradition.
In celebration of its 25th anniversary, Goodman Acker is taking part in this community event as many local residents remain in need of a helping hand.
This year, Fellowship Chapel has collaborated with Goodman Acker to purchase and donate 500 turkeys that will be given away today at Fellowship Chapel. In addition to a fresh turkey, green beans, mac ‘n’ cheese, cranberry sauce and rolls will be included.
Goodman Acker employees will be on hand to distribute the dinners.
Federal charges link New Jersey man to synagogue vandalism
CAMDEN, N.J. (AP) — A New Jersey man faces allegations he conspired to carry out spray paint vandalism attacks two months ago against synagogues in Michigan and Wisconsin.
The Philadelphia Inquirer reported 18-year-old Richard Tobin allegedly recruited people on a neo-Nazi social network.
Court records indicate Tobin told investigators he considered suicide attacks and once sat with a machete in the parking lot of a New Jersey mall, considering an attack on black shoppers.
The paper says the synagogues that were vandalized with swastikas and other images on Sept. 21-22 were in Hancock, Michigan, and Racine, Wisconsin.
A magistrate judge ordered Tobin to remain incarcerated pending a mental health evaluation.

ROCHESTER, N.Y. (AP) — An intruder didn’t count on an 82-year-old woman living alone being an award-winning bodybuilder with nerves of steel.

Murphy called police but wouldn’t open the door. Then the man broke in.
She says she clobbered him with a table, poured shampoo in his face and was beating him with a broom when police arrived.
The man was sent to a hospital. Police tweeted a selfie with Murphy, calling her “tough as nails.”
Murphy works out almost daily at a Rochester gym and says she can deadlift 225 pounds.
Manager drives to Pennsylvania from New York to return keys
HONESDALE, Pa. (AP) — A bagel shop manager in New York drove to Pennsylvania to return a key fob that a customer had left in his shop on Long Island.
Diana Chong drove off from Bagels 101 with her family recently for a pre-Thanksgiving celebration in Honesdale. After parking in Pennsylvania, she realized she had left the fob, needed to restart her car, at the store 185 miles away.
Manager Vinny Proscia offered to ship the fob, but they couldn’t find a service. So Proscia decided to deliver it.
Chong tells Newsday she insisted he accept $200 for gas and tolls and a gift card.
Proscia says he got stopped for speeding on the return trip, but the officer let him go after he showed a thank-you card from Chong.
