Howard & Howard forms Data Privacy and Cybersecurity Practice Group

Howard & Howard has announced the official formation of a Data Privacy and Cybersecurity Practice Group. The practice group’s attorneys assist businesses in staying compliant with data privacy laws and regulations, preventing and protecting against cybersecurity threats and risks, and managing and responding to data breaches. The announcement was made by firm President and CEO, Mark A. Davis.

“Data privacy and cybersecurity concerns have steadily grown as advances in technology continue. We have built a team of attorneys with the knowledge, training, and experience, in both the U.S. and abroad, needed for companies that find themselves on the front line of cyber and data threats and breaches,” said Davis.

The firm’s Data Privacy and Cybersecurity Practice Group has highly experienced attorneys offering services related to industries such as banking and financial; insurance; healthcare; government; education; and internet and online.

Howard & Howard’s Data Privacy and Cybersecurity lawyers also have experience anticipating, addressing, and mitigating risk through services including, but not limited to drafting and negotiating vendor and subcontractor agreements; training on legal compliance with data protection laws; preparation and review of public privacy notices, website disclosures, and terms and conditions; drafting of internal privacy policies; and data breach crisis management.

The Data Privacy and Cybersecurity Practice Group will be led by attorneys Brian Pezzillo, Jennifer Lloyd, and Daniel Cotter. All have significant experience and training in data privacy laws both in the U.S. and abroad.

Michigan Legal Help seeks limited scope attorneys

The Michigan Legal Help website now educates the public about limited scope representation and how to find a limited scope attorney. Thousands of Michigan residents turn to Michigan Legal Help for help solving their legal problems – it reported 43,000 visitors a week in October 2019. Some of these visitors are able to resolve their cases without a lawyer, but some find a part of their case is too complicated for self-help. Many of these people are now looking for a limited scope attorney — more than 200 visitors a week read MLH’s limited scope educational materials, and many more will read LSR information that is being embedded in other articles and tools. The State Bar’s Lawyer Referral Service reports 25-30 callers per week ask to be referred to a limited scope attorney.
Currently, there aren’t enough limited scope attorneys to meet this demand.

Limited scope representation makes legal services more accessible and affordable for clients who cannot afford full representation. When you provide limited scope legal services, you help people with limited funds get strategic, targeted legal help while you engage in an innovative way to build a practice and increase business. To learn more about how to get started with your limited scope practice, including a free ICLE training, visit the State Bar of Michigan’s Limited Scope Toolkit in the Practice Management.
