A celebration was held last month in recognition of the 20th anniversary of the 37th District Treatment Court. The event included a graduation ceremony for the court’s most recent graduates.
Among those joining Judge Matthew Sabaugh, current presiding judge of the treatment court, were Tom Jekielek, program coordinator, and retired 37th District Court Judge Dawnn Gruenburg, who started the court in 1999 by forming a steering committee of community partners and applying for grant funding.
Sabaugh told those in attendance at the gathering in Warren that the court “has helped over 500 graduates save their own lives and made our community safer without the expensive costs of jail.”
