The Michigan Legal Help website now educates the public about limited scope representation and how to find a limited scope attorney. Thousands of Michigan residents turn to Michigan Legal Help for help solving their legal problems – it reported 43,000 visitors a week in October 2019. Some of these visitors are able to resolve their cases without a lawyer, but some find a part of their case is too complicated for self-help. Many of these people are now looking for a limited scope attorney — more than 200 visitors a week read MLH’s limited scope educational materials, and many more will read LSR information that is being embedded in other articles and tools. The State Bar’s Lawyer Referral Service reports 25-30 callers per week ask to be referred to a limited scope attorney.
Currently, there aren’t enough limited scope attorneys to meet this demand.
Limited scope representation makes legal services more accessible and affordable for clients who cannot afford full representation. When you provide limited scope legal services, you help people with limited funds get strategic, targeted legal help while you engage in an innovative way to build a practice and increase business. To learn more about how to get started with your limited scope practice, including a free ICLE training, visit the State Bar of Michigan’s Limited Scope Toolkit in the Practice Management.
