Former MSU dean permanently surrenders medical license

William D. Strampel, the former dean of Michigan State University’s College of Osteopathic Medicine, has permanently surrendered his license to practice medicine as a doctor of osteopathic medicine and has been ordered to pay a $35,000 fine to the State of Michigan, according to state  Attorney General Dana Nessel.

The consent order was entered into by the disciplinary subcommittee of the Board of Osteopathic Medicine and Surgery, which summarily suspended Strampel’s license in August after he was convicted of charges related to the Larry Nassar scandal.

Strampel was Nassar’s supervisor at MSU.

Strampel was dean of the medical school from 2002 until he was fired in 2018. He was convicted in June of three charges: one count of misconduct in office and two counts of willful neglect of duty.

He was sentenced to 11 months in jail on the first count and one year in jail on the other two counts, to be served concurrently.

Arizona man rescued, arrested after getting stuck in chimney

TUCSON, AZ. (AP) — An Arizona man is facing charges after authorities say he tried to climb down the chimney at a vacant house — and got stuck.

KGUN-TV reports firefighters in Tucson rescued the man after finding his legs dangling from inside the chimney.

Authorities say rescue workers were called to the scene following reports from neighbors who said they heard a man calling for help from inside the home.

Firefighters say they used a rescue ring and a rope on a crane to pull the man out of the chimney. Officials say the man is in his mid-30s and wasn’t injured.

Tucson Police say the home was vacant and the man was charged with trespassing and possession of a dangerous drug. His name was not released.

Mississippi residents protest pothole with holiday decor

MCCOMB, Miss. (AP) — Residents of a Mississippi city are protesting a large pothole in their neighborhood by decorating it with holiday cheer.

The Enterprise-Journal reports residents of McComb’s Edgewood neighborhood have topped the pothole and its yellow traffic cone with tinsel, spray-painted pinecones, white leaves and what appear to be holly berries. The newspaper says residents plan to add lights and presents in the hopes of drawing the city’s attention.

It’s unclear how long the pothole has gone unattended by the city or what drove residents to start cheerfully protesting it.
