MAJ to host 17th annual Medical Malpractice Seminar
The Michigan Association for Justice will host its 17th Annual Medical Malpractice Seminar on Friday, Jan. 17, at the Four Points by Sheraton in Novi.
The seminar is for MAJ plaintiff members only.
The event is scheduled from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.; the address of the venue is 2700 S. Karevich Dr.
Nationally-acclaimed trial lawyer Jonathon H. Lomurro will kick off the seminar presenting “Hidden Data for Your Case: Audit Trails, Metadata, Archives, and Alerts.” Other topics to be covered include: “The
New Court Rules - How to Make Them Work Best for You”; “3 Key Winning Trial Strategies: Voir Dire, Simplified PowerPoint Opening Statements, and Daubert Motions to Limit Defense Experts”; and “The Top 5 Impactful Appellate Decisions Regarding Medical Malpractice.”

Official: Gun sanctuary resolutions have ‘no legal effect’
RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Resolutions passed by local governments declaring themselves “Second Amendment Sanctuaries” have “no legal effect," Virginia Attorney General Mark Herring said Friday.
Since Democrats won majorities in the state Senate and House of Delegates in November, more than 100 cities, towns and counties have passed such resolutions, vowing to oppose any new gun laws they believe violate the Second Amendment.
On Friday, Herring issued an advisory opinion on the resolutions. Herring said localities “cannot nullify state laws” and must follow gun violence prevention measures passed by the General Assembly.
“These resolutions have no legal force, and they’re just part of an effort by the gun lobby to stoke fear,” Herring said in a statement.
Thousands of gun rights advocates have shown up at county meetings around the state to support the resolutions. Some have vowed to defy new gun restrictions they believe violate theír Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms.
Democratic lawmakers and Gov. Ralph Northam have proposed an array of gun control laws, including universal background checks and an assault weapons ban.
Police: Robber ‘face-planted’ into door, left DNA, arrested
LAS CRUCES, N.M. (AP) — A suspected robber who face-planted into a Pizza Hut door before fleeing has been arrested thanks to the DNA evidence he left behind, police said.
Markell Deshaun Barnes, 19, was taken into custody last week in Albuquerque, New Mexico, after a forensic laboratory matched his DNA, the Las Cruces Sun-News reports.
According to police, officers had swabbed the door for possible DNA evidence from the June 2019 robbery of a Pizza Hut in Las Cruces, New Mexico.
Investigators took the DNA after reviewing surveillance images and seeing the 19-year-old face-planting into a locked door.
Barnes is suspected in another Las Cruces robbery that same day at a gas station.
He has been charged with one third-degree felony count of attempted armed robbery and one fourth-degree felony count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
