Judge Sandra Harrison named presiding probate court judge

Macomb County Chief Judge James M. Biernat Jr. recently named Judge Sandra Harrison as presiding judge of Macomb County Probate Court.

“Judge Harrison has proven herself an able jurist during her three years on the probate bench and has proven equally capable of — and willing to — assist with the administrative responsibilities of the probate court,” Biernat said. “I believe she will continue to thrive in her new role as presiding judge.”

Harrison was appointed to the probate bench in April 2017 by then-Gov. Rick Snyder.

Biernat said Harrison joins the Hon. Matthew S. Switalski, chief judge pro tem and presiding judge of the family division, the Hon. Richard L. Caretti, presiding judge of the civil criminal division, and the Hon. Denis R. LeDuc, presiding judge of the 42nd District Court, as part of Biernat’s administrative team for the county-funded Courts of Macomb County.

Box of bear cubs bewilders man at North Carolina home

CAMDEN, N.C. (AP) — It was a bear-y baffling discovery in front of a North Carolina home.

Cornelius Williams returned home from the grocery store Tuesday night and heard a squeaky noise coming from a cardboard box left in his walkway, WTKR-TV reported.

It was dark outside, so Williams called authorities for help. A deputy approached the box, peered inside and to his surprise — he found two newborn bear cubs.

Bears are no stranger to Camden County, Sheriff Kevin Jones said. But, he said finding cubs in a box was “a little strange.”

Williams wasn't sure why he was left to bear with the box of blanket-wrapped cubs, but they are out of his paws now.

The bears were taken to the North Carolina Zoo in Asheboro to be examined and cared for, news outlets reported.
