In Memoriam: William Marcoux

Retired attorney William (Bill) Marcoux died Feb. 10.

A long time resident of Jackson, Marcoux, was born and raised in Detroit. He was valedictorian of his graduating high school class and City Champion in track.

He attended the University of Michigan, where he lettered in track and received his BA and law degree.

After graduation and a judicial clerkship, he joined the McKone Badgley law firm, the predecessor firm of what is now Marcoux, Allen. He practiced law in Jackson for more than 60 years and was a trusted advisor and respected colleague to many.

He was invited to be a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and was awarded the first Career Achievement Award, presented by the Jackson County Bar Association this past December.

Marcoux and his wife Kae moved to Jackson in 1953 and immediately became part of the community. With his love of sailing he joined the Clark Lake Yacht Club, serving as Commodore and overseeing the purchase of the current clubhouse.

He loved Jackson and supported the community in many roles. He was a member of the Jackson Rotary Club for 66 years, serving as president and President of the Rotary Foundation. He also served on the boards of Jackson Symphony, United Way, the YMCA and the Land O'Lakes Boy Scout Council. His faith drew him to the First United Methodist church, where he served in a number of positions including president of the board of trustees.

Marcoux is survived by his children Ann Marcoux Simpson (David) and William Marcoux (Marina) and grandchildren Gregory Marcoux (Olga) and Natalie Winkelman (Alex).

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 22, at The First United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to The Jackson YMCA capital campaign or the Jackson Symphony.
