Feedback sought during town hall on opioids
The Michigan Opioids Task Force and Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) are hosting a town hall Thursday, March 12, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Sterling Heights Community Center, 40250 Dodge Park Road.
MDHHS and the Michigan Opioids Task Force will share its strategy to address the opioids crisis, seek information about how the opioid epidemic has impacted those in attendance, and host a Q&A about the crisis response.
The event is being co-hosted by the City of Sterling Heights.
About 150 people attended a similar town hall in Detroit in January.

Conviction upheld in case of cop who had officers stain deck
DETROIT (AP) — The Michigan appeals court has affirmed the conviction of a Detroit police captain who was accused of ordering two officers to wash and stain an outdoor deck at his house.
Harold Rochon is now retired. In 2018, he was convicted of misconduct in office and sentenced to 60 days in jail.
Investigators said two officers who worked under Rochon were told to clean and stain his deck during two days in summer 2015.
“Both officers testified that they did not want to do the work but were repeatedly told to do it and feared retaliation by (Rochon) if they reported him,” the appeals court said.
The court said there was “sufficient evidence” to convict Rochon.
The deck work was uncovered in 2016 during an internal police investigation.
Trapped paraglider rescued from power lines in California
OLIVEHURST, Calif. (AP) — A paraglider spent three hours trapped in power lines before being rescued in northern California.
The unidntified paraglider was facing the ground with the wires as his only support when first responders arrived Wednesday night, according to officials with the Olivehurst Fire Department.
Olivehurst is about 40 miles north of Sacramento.
He got stuck while trying to land at the Yuba County airport during a training exercise, officials said. No major injuries were reported.
Power was cut to the surrounding area for a few hours while crews worked to save the man, authorities said.
“The difficulty was making sure that the lines were de-energized to make sure that our firefighters were safe before we could make patient contact,” said Battalion Chief Randy York.
York said the paraglider was exhausted but all his vitals seemed to be stable.
