Applications sought to fill post of Macomb County prosecutor

Macomb County Circuit Court is seeking applications for the job of Macomb County prosecutor following the resignation of Eric Smith from that post late last month.

A notice issued Friday by Julie Bovenschen, court administrator, said a special meeting of the Macomb County Circuit Court bench is scheduled for noon on Wednesday, May 20 to appoint a prosecutor.

Due to the current public health crisis, the meeting will be conducted via Zoom and the public will be able to attend by joining the meeting.

Instructions to join the meeting will be provided on the circuit court’s website — circuitcourt.macombgov.org — by Monday,?May 18.

Applications will be accepted from May 4-15 only. Applications received before or after these dates will not be considered.

Smith resigned March 30 after he was charged with 10 felony counts for his role in an alleged embezzlement scheme.


Detroit Bar seeks board candidates

The Detroit Bar Association is seeking candidates for its 2020-21 board of directors, according to DBA President Joanne Geha Swanson.

Board members are expected to attend monthly meetings of the governing panel, while also accepting related assignments to two board committees, Swanson indicated.

As a representative of the Detroit Bar, board members are expected to “become knowledgeable about the accomplishments and membership benefits” and to “make every effort to identify and enroll new members,” Swanson said.

 Candidates should possess a variety of leadership skills and have demonstrated volunteer involvement in a bar committee, section, council, commission, task force, or a community philanthropic organization.
