Court releases order authorizing collection of contact information
The Michigan Supreme Court recently released the following order:

to Collect Contact Information

On order of the Court, in light of Administrative Order No. 2020-2, Administrative Order No. 2020-6, and Administrative Order No. 2020-9, and under 1963 Const, Art VI, Sec 4, which provides for the Supreme Court’s general superintending control over all state courts, a court may collect contact information, including mobile phone number(s) and email address(es), from any party or witness to a case to facilitate scheduling of and participation in remote hearings or facilitate case processing. A court may collect the contact information using a SCAO-approved form. To protect privacy and address security concerns, the contact information shall be confidential. An email address for an attorney must be the same address as the one on file with the State Bar of Michigan.
This order is effective until further order of the Court.
Webinar looks ahead to anticipated COVID-19 claims and reinsurance

The webinar, co-sponsored by the ABA Tort Trial & Insurance Practice Section and the ABACLE, will present a roundtable discussion about what claims can be expected and how buyers and sellers of reinsurance expect to address COVID-19 claims as they arise. The program will provide:
• An understanding of the broad scope of potential claims arising from COVID-19;
• Information about what reinsurers expect from their reinsured in presenting COVID-19 claims for payment;
• The legal issues likely to arise when claims are presented to reinsurers for payment.
Michigan prison hot spot says 12th inmate has died of virus
COLDWATER, Mich. (AP) — A 12th inmate has died from COVID-19 complications at a southern Michigan prison where more than 50% of inmates have tested positive for the coronavirus, the Corrections Department said Monday.
Lakeland prison in Branch County has a large share of the department's older prisoners and is the first to test everyone.
The department said 785 of roughly 1,400 prisoners at Lakeland have tested positive. Only a fraction of all prisoners have been tested statewide, but the infection rate was 56%. There have been at least 33 deaths.
Among staff, 254 have tested positive and there have been two deaths, the department said.
Separately, the American Civil Liberties Union filed a class-action lawsuit Sunday to try to force the release of immigrants with health problems at the Calhoun County jail. The jail has approximately 130 people who are being detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
"Civil immigration detention should not be a death sentence," ACLU attorney Eunice Cho said.
