Macomb County Legal News changes to weekly schedule
The Macomb County Legal News, which has published five days a week since September 2008, will become a once weekly publication on a temporary basis beginning today, May 15.
The announcement was made this week by Legal News Publisher Ban Ibrahim, who indicated the change is a result of the COVID-19 outbreak that has dramatically impacted the volume of public notices that the newspaper publishes.
Ibrahim said that The Macomb County Legal News will resume its normal daily printing schedule once various moratoriums have been lifted by the state and federal governments. It is unclear, she said, when those restrictions will be rolled back.
County treasurer continues ban on tax foreclosures
Macomb County Treasurer Larry Rocca has announced a continuation of his ban on tax foreclosures of occupied homes and businesses in light of “the economic hardships we are all facing as we fight united against the COVID-19 threat.”
Rocca said, however, “properties that pose a threat to the public health, safety and welfare, will continue to be subject to foreclosure.
“Although occupied properties are no longer facing foreclosure this year, delinquent taxes must still be paid and any unpaid balances will continue to accrue interest,” Rocca said in a statement issued Wednesday.
He encouraged taxpayers to call the treasurer’s office at 586.469.5190 if they are having problems with payments.
Rocca announced the ban initially in late March and it was scheduled to expire at the end of May.

Butzel Long donates $5,000 to Gleaners
Butzel Long is responding to meet the needs of the community during the COVID-19 pandemic by donating $5,000 to Gleaners.
The donation through the Butzel Long Charitable Trust, will provide 15,000 meals to neighbors in need.
Butzel Long has been a longtime supporter of Gleaners.
Over the years, the firm hosted a PB & J fundraiser for Gleaners and collected boxes of cereal during a food drive for kids, to name a few.
