Michigan Civil Rights Commission Issues Statement on the death of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg

Stacie Clayton, Chair of the Michigan Civil Rights Commission (MCRC), has issued the following statement on the passing of U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, on behalf of the MCRC.

"Justice Ginsburg was not just a consummate jurist and litigator. Ruth Bader Ginsburg will always be remembered as a pillar of the movement for civil rights and women’s rights. She is one of a handful of greats this country has produced who through her steadfast determination, strength of character and clarity of vision, changed the trajectory of countless lives, especially the lives of women. We are forever in her debt."

The Michigan Civil Rights Commission was created by the Michigan Constitution to safeguard constitutional and legal guarantees against discrimination.

The commission is charged with investigating alleged discrimination against any person because of religion, race, color or national origin, genetic information, sex, age, marital status, height, weight, arrest record, and physical and mental disability. The Michigan Department of Civil Rights serves as the operational arm of the Commission.
