Michigan Supreme Court announces oral arguments Oct. 7-8
The Michigan Supreme Court announced that oral arguments in 11 cases will be heard on Wednesday and Thursday, October 7-8. The court will convene to hear the cases beginning at 9:30 a.m. The courtroom will not be open to the public. The schedule of arguments is posted on the Supreme Court’s oral arguments homepage, https://courts.michigan.gov/courts/michigansupremecourt/oral-arguments/pages/default.aspx.
The court broadcasts its oral arguments and other hearings live on the Internet (https://courts.michigan.gov/Courts/MichiganSupremeCourt/oral-arguments/live-streaming/Pages/live-streaming.aspx). Citizens can watch the stream only while the court is in session and on the bench.
Streaming will begin shortly before the hearings start; audio will be muted until justices take the bench. Archived video of oral argument will also be posted on YouTube.
Plunkett Cooney office to relocate to downtown Lansing
Plunkett Cooney’s East Lansing office will move on Sept. 25 to the historic Comerica Bank Building in downtown Lansing. The new office address will be: 101 N. Washington Square, Suite 1200, Lansing, MI 48933.
Plunkett Cooney’s new office space will be located on the completely renovated 12th floor of the Comerica Bank Building, which is one block from the Michigan Capitol. Visitors will be greeted by a contemporary design concept and employees will enjoy an open floor plan.
The new Lansing office will be home to four attorneys, one paralegal and two support staff members who provide a range of legal services to clients in the public and private sectors. The firm has maintained an office presence in the Lansing area since 1987.
Workplace diversity, equity initiatives focus of ACC-MI webinar
The Association of Corporate Counsel-Michigan Chapter (ACC-MI) will present a webinar sponsored by Zausmer PC titled “In-House Counsel’s Role in the Design and Implementation in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Initiatives in the Workplace” on Thursday, October 22, from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.
This will take the form of a panel discussion led by Zausmer Shareholder Mischa Boardman as moderator. The panel will discuss the role that in-house counsel should take in the design of and implementation DEI initiatives, including: (1) the importance of the DEI initiatives in the work place; (2) the current types of initiatives that companies are implementing; (3) the sensitivities surrounding the creation and implementation of initiatives; and (4) managing potential legal liability/avoiding pitfalls associated with this endeavor.
