‘Fall Conference 2020’ offered online by CDAM next week

“The Criminal Defense Attorneys of Michigan (CDAM) will present its “Fall Conference 2020: Forensics ... It’s Not Rocket Science” via Zoom on Friday, Oct. 16, from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and Saturday, Oct.17, from  8:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Sessions include: “Forensic Science Update — The Revolution Continues,” “The ABCs of DNA and When to Know You are in Over Your Head,” “Digging Daubert,” “Medical Examinations, Causation, Toxicology, and Physics,” “Michigan Law Update,” “Experts v Lab-Based Forensics,” “Proving What Your Client Did(nt) Do With His Computer,” “The ABCs of DUI Drugs: Amphetamines to Zolpidem,” and “Sentencing Updates.”

The registration fee of $360 includes both Friday and Saturday sessions. Single-day registrations are not available.

Registrants will receive an email with the Zoom link that will be used for both conference days.

Registrants will also receive a copy of every speaker’s presentation, which will allow registrants to attend the live sessions that best suit their schedule and watch video replays of the sessions they were not able to watch live.

Bar association offers Virtual Cooking Class

The Italian American Bar Association of Michigan (IABAM) is offering a Virtual Cooking Class on Wednesday, October 21, from 6:30 to 9 p.m.

Chef Angelo Loria of Vince & Joe’s Gourmet Market will conduct the class over Zoom.

Meal kits cost $75 and will be ready for pick up at Vince & Joe’s on Oct. 20th or delivery is available for a small fee.

Examining COVID-19, race equity, political speech in the workplace

The Labor Law Section of the State Bar of Michigan will present “Labor Law: Overcoming the Crossroads of COVID-19, Race Equity, & Political Speech in the Workplace” online via Zoom on Thursday, Oct. 15, from 4 to 5:30 p.m.

This discussion will examine challenges facing employers and employees alike in these unprecedented times.

During two break-out sessions with both labor and employment attorneys, the program will address issues ranging from the ever-evolving compliance laws regarding COVID-19 to what constitutes protected activity in the midst of social justice protests.
