Robert Szalka, director of legal services for Macomb County Probate Court, has announced that new filings will not be accepted by the court from Dec. 28 through Jan. 3.
In his announcement Monday, Szalka said the move would allow court workers time to deal with a current backlog of filings
During that time period, Szalka said, the court will be open for phone calls and only accept emergency matters.
The court has an email address for emergency use only: probatevirtualdesk@gmail.com.
Currently the court is only accepting new filings by mail or by individuals placing the filing in an envelope in the drop box located on the first floor of the court building. Fax filings are strongly discouraged.
The above steps will assist court staff in processing the backlog in filings and to serve attorneys and the public more efficiently.
Szalka said the health care crisis has certainly been challenging for all and everyone at the court is continuing to persevere.
