MCPBA seminar features ‘Tales from the (Probate) Front’
The Macomb County Probate Bar Association will hold its next Zoom seminar, entitled ‘Tales from the (Probate) Front,” on Friday, Feb. 5 from noon to 1 p.m.
“Join us as some of our seasoned members share one or two of their favorite war stories from practicing law,” states an announcement issued by the MCPBA.
Among those tentataively scheduled to appear are Macomb County Circuit Court Judge Carl Marlinga, Wayne Wilson, Pat Patterson, John MacArthur, Henry Sachs, Cecil St. Pierre, Bill Monaghan and Keith Cermak.

State Supreme Court issues waiver for 2020 jury statistics reports
State Court Administrator Thomas Boyd this week informed judges, court administrators and probate registers across Michigan that they do not have to submit reports detailing jury statistics from last year.
For four years, Boyd said, courts have submitted the annual Jury Statistics Report to the State Court Administrative Office (SCAO).
Those reports have been used in the performance measures initiative to inform and improve jury management practices.
Due to the pandemic, Boyd said, jury activity was minimal last year and the jury statistics report for these trials will not be as useful for assessing juror yield or utilization.
Therefore, the SCAO is waiving the report covering activity in 2020 that would have been due on March 31.
The next such report will be due March 31, 2022, for jury activity in 2021.

PLI online program focuses on drafting, enforcing contracts
The Practising Law Institute (PLI) will present “Asylum, Special Immigrant Juvenile Status, Crime Victim, and Other Immigration Relief 2021” as a live webcast on Friday, Feb. 5, beginning at 9 a.m.
This program will provide an overview of immigration relief that may be available to children, victims of crime and trafficking, and individuals eligible for asylum,
Speakers also will address cancellation of removal and related relief as well as discuss substantive and procedural issues along with new developments in relevant case law and processes.
Course materials will be available to attendees prior to the start of the program.
Cost for the webcast is $129.
