Wade H. McCree Jr. luncheon online February 24

The Federal Bar Association, Eastern District of Michigan Chapter, will present its “2021 Wade H. McCree Jr. Luncheon for the Advancement of Social Justice” as an online Zoom program on Wednesday, Feb. 24, from 11:30 a.m. to noon.

U.S. Court of Appeals  Chief Judge R. Guy Cole Jr., Sixth Circuit, will be the keynote speaker for the program. 

In addition, the Wade H. McCree Jr. Award for the Advancement of Social Justice will be presented. 

FBA members can attend for $18; guests pay $28.

Detroit Mercy Law symposium focuses on COVID-19 issues

The University of Detroit Mercy School of Law will present its “Law Review Symposium, Pandemic: From Disparity to Equity” online via Zoom on Friday, March 5, from noon to 6 p.m.

The Detroit Mercy Law Review will welcome scholars, legal professionals, and community leaders from across the country to discuss issues at the heart of the COVID-19 Pandemic.

The event is free and open to the public.

Reginald Turner, incoming president of the ABA and partner of Clark Hill, will be the keynote speaker.

Wayne State University  launches online Masters of Studies in Law

Wayne State University Law School lhas aunched a Master of Studies in Law program with a concentration in human resources.

The inaugural cohort of 20 students is 86 percent female and 67 percent minority, ranging in age from 22 to 65.

The cohort consists of those working in human resources or who have ambitions of joining the field, hailing from such industries as automotive, health care, higher education, government, nonprofit and retail.

The program is completely online and offered only to non-lawyers, with start dates in January and August.

Courses are tailored to address employers’ growing desire for human resources professionals to be versed in legal terminology and legal principles, especially as the world adapts and recovers from the COVID-19 crisis.
