Tjapkes joins Foster Swift
Foster Swift welcomes attorney Steven J. Tjapkes to its Grand Rapids office. Tjapkes joins the Business & Tax practice group where he will continue to focus on counseling agri-businesses and family farms in organization, succession planning and transactional matters.
Tjapkes also lectures on estate administration and buying and selling small businesses.
Previously a veterinarian in private practice, Tjapkes received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Michigan State University before graduating cum laude with his Juris Doctor from the University of Michigan School of Law.
Varnum welcomes new partners
Jeff Koelzer, Matthew Maltz and John Sturgis have been elected to Varnum’s partnership, reflecting growth in the Ann Arbor and Grand Rapids offices.
Koelzer is a member of the Litigation and Trial Practice Team in the Grand Rapids office. He joined Varnum as an associate after graduating from the University of Michigan in 2014.
Koelzer focuses his practice on commercial litigation, creditors' rights, complex family law matters and municipal/public sector litigation. He has first-chaired several trials before judges and jurors. His appellate experience includes matters before the U. S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit and briefing cases for the Michigan Supreme Court.
Sturgis is a real estate attorney based in the Grand Rapids office. He joined the firm in 2014 as an associate.
He regularly assists clients with real estate sales and acquisitions, commercial leasing matters on behalf of both landlords and tenants, and real estate financing transactions.
Sturgis received his law degree from University of Iowa College of Law and his undergraduate degree from University of Michigan.
Maltz works in the Ann Arbor office.
