ABA book aimed at helping new lawyers build interpersonal and psychological skills

A new book from the American Bar Association, "A Civility-Based Model For New Lawyers: Understanding Your Moral Compass, Interpersonal Skills, and Ethical Inventory before Practicing Law," challenges new lawyers to view themselves through the lens of their colleagues and clients and to take notice of the basic behavioral norms that are the basis of a successful practice.

The book stresses the critical behavioral qualities that will help or hinder lawyers' ability to credibly undertake the client's issues.

Hiring partners will also find this book useful in mentoring their new hires. Mastering these interpersonal skills and understanding the issues discussed in the book will lead to a rewarding career and enhanced civility.

The author is James H. Fierberg, who spent 40 years as a commercial litigator in Massachusetts and Florida. A graduate of Boston State College and Western New England University School of Law, he also served as a Florida Supreme Court-certified civil mediator and law professor for more than a decade.
