ABA TECHSHOW 2021 to showcase latest in technology for the legal industry

The American Bar Association’s ABA TECHSHOW 2021, which shines a spotlight on the most useful and practical technologies available in the legal industry, will be held online March 8-12.

Lawyers, legal professionals and technology all come together at the show, which will feature 100 panels and presentations covering more than a dozen tracks, from automation and collaboration to cybersecurity and
marketing.

Renée DiResta, a technical research manager at the Stanford Internet Observatory at Stanford University, will be the keynote speaker on Thursday, March 8 at 11 a.m. ET. DiResta, who appeared in the popular Netflix documentary “The Social Dilemma,” investigates the spread of malign narratives and disinformation across social networks and assists policymakers in understanding and responding to the problem. She has advised Congress, the State Department and other academic, civic and business organizations.

For the fifth consecutive year, ABA TECHSHOW will host the Start-up Pitch Competition, which will kick off the gathering on March 8 at 11 a.m. ET. Fifteen legal startups will face off in the competition, judged by TECHSHOW attendees who will pick the most innovative startup for the year.

State Bar of Michigan introduces virtual support groups for attorneys

The State Bar of Michigan is pleased to introduce an important new service: virtual support groups. Facilitated by a clinical case manager from SBM’s Lawyers and Judges Assistance Program, these confidential group sessions are designed to help attorneys connect with experts and peers who understand the unique difficulties they’re going through and can help work toward solutions.

Each eight-week virtual support group series will focus on a different issue facing Michigan attorneys.

The first series, “Resiliency Through a Pandemic,” will connect legal professionals navigating the ongoing personal and professional challenges brought on by COVID-19. Future topics will include other areas of interest related to wellbeing in the legal profession.

This service is offered exclusively to members of the State Bar of Michigan. Participants must be willing to respect confidentiality. Sessions will be conducted via a HIPAA-compliant telehealth platform, allowing attorneys from all over the state to attend, regardless of location. The lunchtime sessions will be held each Friday from March 12 to April 30 between noon and 1 p.m. The cost to attend is $5 per session, or $30 if paying for all eight sessions up front.

To register, or get more information, contact LJAP at contactljap@michbar.org or 1-800-996-5522.
