Five legal experts will explain the latest influx of unaccompanied migrant children at the U.S.-Mexico border in a webinar on Friday, April 9, hosted by the American Bar Association Commission on Immigration.
The free program, which starts at noon, will feature experts from Texas and Washington, D.C. They will discuss who is crossing the border, why they are coming now and how the United States government is receiving them. They will also compare current conditions with similar influxes in 2014 and 2019.
The webinar is titled "Unaccompanied Children at the Border: Get the Facts from the Experts." It will include panelists:
• Dalia Castillo-Granados - director of the ABA Children's Immigration Law Academy in Houston
• Mark Greenberg - A member of the Commission on Immigration and director of the Human Services Initiative at the Immigration Policy Institute in Washington, D.C.
• Michelle L. Saenz-Rodriguez - A member of the board of governors of the American Immigration Lawyers Association and co-founder of Saenz-Rodriguez & Associates, P.C., in Dallas
• Carly Salazar - Legal director of the ABA South Texas Pro Bono Asylum Representation Project (ProBAR) in Harlingen, Texas
• Mary Giovagnoli (moderator) - A member of the Commission on Immigration and senior counsel for legal strategy and special programs at Kids in Need of Defense (KIND) in Washington, D.C.
