Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer recently announced the appointment of Kimberly Buddin to the Advisory Board for the Michigan Intelligence Operations Center for Homeland Security.
Buddin is the policy council for ACLU of Michigan. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Psychology from the University of Michigan and a law degree from the Michigan State University College of Law.
Buddin is reappointed to represent a resident of this state who represents a statewide, non-profit organization advocating for civil liberties and privacy protections, for a term commencing April 23, 2021 and expiring April 11, 2025.
The State of Michigan’s Intelligence Operations Center shall collect, evaluate, collate, and analyze information and intelligence and then, as appropriate, disseminate this information and intelligence to the proper public safety agencies so that any threat of terrorism or criminal activity will be successfully identified and addressed.
This appointment is not subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.

Jaffe, Raitt, Heuer, & Weiss PC has welcomed new attorney Ryan M. Mardini to its team of experienced legal professionals. He joins the firm’s mergers & acquisitions, emerging & growth business, and tax practice groups as an associate. Jaffe CEO Jeffrey M. Weiss made the announcement.
Mardini has experience managing M&A deals and navigating the complex processes of deal structuring and regulatory compliance. As an M&A attorney, Mardini has sharpened his skills to become a reliable, thoughtful counselor for his middle market clients, guiding them through the structuring, negotiating, and drafting stages of high-value transactions.
Mardini graduated from University of Detroit Mercy School of Law. He also received a financial modeling and valuation analyst certificate from the Corporate Finance Institute and is in the process of earning a Master of Laws from Georgetown University Law Center. He is admitted to the State Bar of Michigan and is licensed to practice in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern and Western Districts of Michigan.
In addition, Elizabeth Rogers has joined the Southfield office of Jaffe as a partner with the firm’s real estate practice group. Jaffe CEO Jeffrey M. Weiss made the announcement.
Rogers is a seasoned practitioner with experience in driving complex transactions for large corporations and closely held businesses. She has served as closing or supervising counsel for national and regional financial institutions in matters involving securitized lending, workouts, foreclosures, and originations. She also has represented international and national corporate real estate investors in connection with the acquisition, disposition, leasing and financing of all types of commercial property; and, she has defended and pursued claims for her clients in federal, state and district courts.
Prior to joining Jaffe, Rogers served as in-house legal counsel for a large municipality and advised its boards, commissions and elected officials regarding strategic transactions involving public-private partnerships, zoning, regulatory requirements and risk mitigation.
Outside of the firm, Rogers serves as a member of the Board of Directors for the Global African Business Association, and sits on the advisory board for Sowing Empowerment & Economic Development, Inc. (SEED).
Rogers received her law degree from the University of Michigan Law School and also holds a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Michigan. She is admitted to the State Bar of Michigan and the State Bar of New York.

Butzel Long attorney and shareholder James S. Rosenfeld is one of 20 attorneys named to Michigan Lawyers Weekly’s “Go To Lawyers for Employment Law.”
Rosenfeld is the previous manager of Butzel Long’s Labor and Employment Practice Group and practices in the area of labor and employment law. He has experience in litigating a wide variety of labor and employment cases, including trial and appellate work in both state and federal court, as well as negotiating collective bargaining agreements, and handling labor arbitrations.
He frequently lectures and conducts training for employers and supervisors on various employment issues, including on harassment avoidance, diversity and inclusion and supervisor skills.

In addition, Butzel Long is growing to meet client needs with the addition of Darius W. Dynkowski who joined the firm as a shareholder in in the firm’s Real Estate Practice Group.
Based in Butzel Long’s Detroit office, Dynkowski concentrates his practice in the areas of condemnation and eminent domain, inverse condemnation and defacto takings, regulatory takings, property tax appeals, real estate valuation litigation, general real estate litigation including easements, leases, property line disputes, and all other aspects of real property dispute resolution in both state and federal courts. He is fully licensed in Michigan and Ohio and has handled matters nationally.
Dynkowski has devoted his career to protecting private property rights and specializes in all aspects of real estate and business valuation. He has guided his career on the basic premise that no one should be forced to face the involuntary loss of their property by a governmental agency without representation. Dynkowski has spent the last 25 years fighting city hall on behalf of his clients who range from homeowners to national corporations. The types of properties he has handled include residential, commercial, industrial, agricultural, and special purpose properties.
He has served as the lead attorney on several matters that have resulted in compensation exceeding the original offer by at least $1 million against governmental agencies and utility companies.
Dynkowski served as the chair of the American Bar Association’s Section of Real Property Land Use and Environmental Group Condemnation Committee. In 2009, Chambers USA recognized Dynkowski as one of the best eminent domain attorneys in the country. In 2012, Michigan Lawyers Weekly named Dynkowski a Leader In The Law. In addition, he has been featured in the Michigan Super Lawyers magazine, Best Lawyers in America and has an AV rating from Martindale Hubble.
He also has served as an adjunct professor at Michigan State University College of Law, is a frequent lecturer nationally, and has authored numerous articles on eminent domain. In June 2009, Dynkowski was appointed by former Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm to serve two terms on the State of Michigan Real Estate Appraiser Licensing Board.
Dynkowski earned a law degree from Michigan State University College of Law in 1996. He is a 1993 graduate of Wayne State University.
