The Real Property Law Section (RPLS) of the State Bar of Michigan will conduct its 2021 Virtual Summer Conference “Roadblocks & Pivots” online Wednesday through Friday, July 21-23, via Zoom.
The conference will begin Wednesday afternoon with the Section/Land Title Standards Annual Meeting, update from the RPLS lobbyist, and State of the Law.
Michigan real estate attorneys need to keep pace with changing laws that affect both new and existing projects. Co-Chairs Brandy L. Mathie, Kerr Russell in Detroit, and Catherine A. Riesterer, Cooper & Riesterer in Brighton, invite all real estate practitioners to meet their colleagues virtually and participate in discussions on current legal issues that impact real property law in the State of Michigan. The day will end with Happy Hour to raise a glass in gratitude to the outgoing chair and welcome the new chair for the upcoming year.
Thursday, the conference will begin with an expert panel discussion on “Marijuana Real Estate Transactions from A-Z.” Thursday’s and Friday’s workshops will address premise liability insurance, land title standards, options, private equity and non-traditional real estate planning. Friday’s expert panel discussion will focus on the impact of the global pandemic on the local real estate market.
The program will also include eight interactive roundtable discussions on a variety of topics such as emotional support animals, broken condos, short term rentals, residential transactions toolkit, land bank closings, land use, taxes, and property tax appeals.
