MJA planning 2021 annual conference

The Michigan Judges Association will host its 2021 Annual Conference Sunday through Tuesday, Aug. 22-24, at the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island.

Cost for judges to attend is $150 plus lodging.

‘Appeals 101’ training offered by PAAM

The Prosecuting Attorneys Association of Michigan’s Victim Services Training Unit (VSTU) will present “Appeals 101” as an online training Tuesday, Aug. 24, from 9 to 11 a.m. via Zoom.

The program will offer an overview of the appellate process, designed primarily for victim advocates and for attorneys who want to know more about what goes on in the Court of Appeals and the Michigan Supreme Court.  

The goal is to help attendees understand the basics of the process to better answer questions from victims or their families. 

The PAAM VSTU is hosting the training in partnership with James Benison, chief appellate attorney for the Kent County Prosecuting Attorney's Office.

Webinar to help attorneys learn ‘How to Master Hybrid Work’

The American Bar Association will present a webinar on “Delighting Your Clients from Anywhere: How to Master Hybrid Work” on Friday, Aug. 27, beginning at noon.

After over a year of working from home, 67 percent of law firm professionals want to say at least partially remote after the pandemic.

Firms now know that it’s possible to be productive from home, and that teleworking offers benefits to attorneys, clients, and the firm alike.

As it becomes safer to return to offices many firms will settle into a hybrid scenario where, at any given time, a portion of a firm’s team (and clients) will be remote and some will be in the office.
