The Prosecuting Attorneys Association of Michigan, Child Abuse Prosecution Resources Unit, is pleased to present the online training "Jury Selection in Child Victim Cases" on Thursday, September 2, from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. via Zoom. This is a free, interactive training specifically for prosecutors and assistant prosecutors.
Cases where children are victims of child abuse or child sexual abuse present unique challenges. The cases can be won or lost in jury selection. This training will cover the legal issues in selecting juries, how juror's perceptions of prosecutors can affect a case, what types of jurors prosecutors are looking for, and questions that will get prosecutors the jurors they need. The training will also have some practical exercises to hone those jury selection skills.
The CAPR team at PAAM hopes to provide attendees with a training experience as close as possible to a live in-person training. Attendees are asked to treat this training as if it were a live in-person training. Attendees should only register if they can devote the full time allotted to the training. Any questions about this process can be directed to Pam Maas at maasp@michigan.gov.
This training satisfies 3.5 hours of continuing legal education and .5 hours of ethics training for purposes of PAAM's Best Practices Recommendations.
Prosecutors and assistant prosecutors can register for the free training by visiting www.michiganprosecutor.org and clicking on "Training." Registrants will receive an email a few days prior to the webinar with details on how to join the webinar and with the scenarios that will be used during training Anyone who does not receive an email by the morning of September 2 should email Pam Maas at maasp@michigan.gov.
