Several Patriot Week celebrations will be hosted in the coming days throughout Southeast Michigan.
Patriot Week renews America’s spirit by celebrating the First Principles, Founding Fathers and other patriots, vital documents, and speeches and flags that make the United States of America great.
Anchored by the key dates of the anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks and the anniversary of the signing of the U.S. Constitution on Sept. 17 (Constitution Day), Patriot Week develops themes and programming for each day during the week.
Co-created in 2009 by Oakland County Circuit Court Judge Michael Warren and his then 10-year-old daughter Leah, Patriot Week has captured the imagination and support of citizens across the nation with participants and official recognition by they U.S. Senate and in over 15 states.
Responding to the commercialization or loss of meaning of traditional national holidays, Patriot Week invigorates American citizens’ appreciation and understanding of their nation’s spirit. Patriot Week is a non-partisan effort to unite Americans behind the founding First Principles articulated in the Declaration of Independence and embedded in the Constitution.
Over the past weekend, a Sept. 11 memorial ceremonies were held in Plymouth Township as well as Lake Orion and another event took place in Canton.
Upcoming events include:
• Patriots and Parchment Fundraiser today at 5:30 p.m. in Rochester
• Is America Fulfilling its Promise of Equality? A panel discussion featuring ABA President Reggie Turner, judges and others, Tuesday, Sept. 14 at 5:30 p.m. in Bloomfield
• Constitution Day Presentations at Berkshire Middle School, Friday, Sept. 17 (all day) in Beverly Hills
Most events and activities are free and open to the public. For additional information on the various events, visit www.PatriotWeek.org.
