Warm welcome extended to new State Bar leader

There was a celebration last month in honor of the State Bar of Michigan’s new president, Dana M. Warnez. The gathering at Blakes Orchard & Cider Mill in Armada was sponsored by several Macomb County legal organizations to recognize the Center Line attorney who recently took over as the SBM’s 87th leader. Among those on hand to pay tribute were (pictured with Warnez from left) American Bar Association President Reginald M. Turner, Michigan Supreme Court Justice David F. Viviano and Macomb County Circuit Court Chief Judge James M. Biernat Jr.

Members of Michigan’s legal community gathered recently at Blakes Orchard & Cider Mill in Armada to honor Dana M. Warnez, the new president of the State Bar of Michigan.

Warnez has been practicing law in Center Line since 1996, with both her mother Florence Schoenherr-Warnez and older sister SBM Past President Kimberly M. Cahill, who died in 2008.

The law firm specializes in probate and estate planning, trust and estate administration, and real estate matters.

Among those on hand to celebrate the SBM’s 87th president were American Bar President Reginald Turner and Michigan Supreme Court Justice David Viviano.

The reception was sponsored by the Macomb County Bar Association, the Macomb County Bar Foundation, the Macomb County Probate Bar Association and the Women Lawyers Association of Michigan — Macomb Region.

Turner, a member of the Detroit law firm Clark Hill PLC, noted in his brief remarks at the gathering that he has been a friend and colleague of Warnez for more than 20 years.

He also called attention to her impact on the State Bar over the years.

Her service with the SBM includes being a member of the 21st Century Task Force, chair of the Representative Assembly, member of Strategic Planning Committees, Awards Committee, Online Legal Resource and Referral Committee, and chair of local District D Character and Fitness.

Viviano, who served on the Macomb County Circuit Court bench before he was appointed to the Supreme Court in 2013, noted Warnez’s professional accomplishments with each host organization and his personal interactions throughout her career.

Warnez has served as MCBA president and president of the MCBF. She has chared the foundation’s scholarship committee, which initiated a memorial scholarship and reading program in memory of her late sister.

She received a bachelor of arts degree from the University of Michigan in English and her juris doctor from the University of Detroit Mercy Law School.

Warnez is a member of the tri-county panel of the State of Michigan Attorney Discipline Board, a fellow of the Michigan State Bar Foundation and a member of the Women Lawyers Association of Michigan, Macomb County Bar Association and the American Bar Association.
