Professor Monica Hakimi, the James V. Campbell Professor of Law and associate dean for Faculty Research at the University of Michigan Law School, has been elected co-editor-in-chief of the American Journal of International Law (AJIL), effective April 2022. Her election was approved by the Executive Council of the American Society of International Law (ASIL) following a unanimous vote by the AJIL Board of Editors. Ingrid Brunk Wuerth, the Associate Dean for Research and Helen Strong Curry Chair in International Law at Vanderbilt School of Law, will serve as co-editor-in-chief.
Hakimi is a leading scholar in the fields of public international law and U.S. foreign relations law. In addition to serving on the Board of Editors of the American Journal of International Law, she serves on the Advisory Board for the Max Planck Encyclopedia of International Law and the U.S. Department of State Advisory Committee on International Law. Her research ties together doctrine and theory to examine how international law operates and adapts to contemporary challenges, particularly in the areas of human and national security.

AJIL is the world’s preeminent peer-reviewed scholarly journal, focusing on international law and international relations. Published quarterly since 1907, the Journal features articles, editorials, notes, comments, and book reviews by pre-eminent scholars and practitioners from around the world addressing developments in public and private international law. The Journal also contains analyses of decisions by national and international courts and tribunals as well as a section on contemporary U.S. practice in international law. AJIL is supplemented by a quarterly online publication, AJIL Unbound, which includes short, original essays discussing new ideas and developments in the field.
