Lawyer disciplinary complaints topic of ABA webinar

The American Bar Association will present the webinar “Peeling Back the Curtain: Lawyer Disciplinary Complaints” on Monday, Dec. 20 from 1 to 2 p.m.

The event will offer a behind the scenes look at the lifespan of a disciplinary complaint from the time the complaint is made until full resolution.

It will generally walk attendees through the assessment of how complaints are screened, what type of complaints are most commonly made, and the accompanying ethical rules alleged to have been violated, the investigation phase, and the administrative complaint process from the perspective of both disciplinary counsel and defense counsel.

Panelists will also discuss best practices in terms of responding to disciplinary complaints and common mistakes made. Lastly, the panelists will discuss the aggravating and mitigating factors weighed in determining sanctions.

SBM offers caselaw, legislative update

The Children’s Law Section of the State Bar of Michigan will present the webinar “CLS Looking Ahead to 2022” on Friday, Jan. 7, beginning at noon via Zoom.  
The program will provide a caselaw and legislative update.

Law firm seeks applicants for Diversity Scholarship

Warner Norcross + Judd LLP is now accepting applications for the Diversity Law Scholarship Program.

The scholarship program provides students of color with financial assistance to offset the educational costs of earning a law or paralegal degree.

The firm awards $5,000 to a law school student and $2,000 to a paralegal student or $1,000 to a legal secretarial student. Applications are due March 1.

To be eligible for the Diversity Law scholarship, applicants must be accepted to or attending a Michigan law school, be a Michigan resident attending an accredited law school in the U.S. or be a Michigan resident majoring in paralegal or legal secretarial studies in an accredited program.
