Martin Luther King Day event slated for Jan. 17

The Jackson County Branch NAACP will host the Martin Luther King Jr Day of Service at 10 a.m., Monday, Jan. 17, at the Mar tin Luther King Jr. Recreation Center, 1107 Adrian St. The theme for this free event is “Standing on the Shoulders of Giants – Honoring the Past while Preparing for the Future”.

The keynote speaker is Dr. Pamela Pugh, elected to the State of Michigan Board of Education in 2014, currently serving as vice president. From 2016 to 2019 she served as Chief Public Health Advisor for Flint.

Dr. Pugh is also founder of Regeneration LLC, a business that serves as a catalyst for economically sustainable and healthy urban communities by assisting public agencies, organizations, and businesses in building capacity through effective operations and winning partnerships.
