Fire Station #2 on S. Milwaukee Street has reopened. At its January 11 meeting, the City Council approved $40,500 in American Rescue Plan (ARP) funds to go toward planning upgrades to the fire station building. The station was reopened to provide faster fire and first responder service to the City's south side neighborhoods. There was previously only one fire station open in the City of Jackson, which is located in Downtown Jackson.
The City Council also approved the sale of two City-owned properties to The Parlour. The ice cream parlor and restaurant plans on using the adjacent properties to install outdoor seating and a playground.
In addition, the sale of a vacant City-owned house on S. Elm Avenue was approved by the council.
