'Bling Thing' library fundraiser slated for February 4 & 5

Bling Thing—the popular sale of fashion and fine jewelry and accessories, presented by the Friends of Hackley Public Library—will be held Friday, February 4, and Saturday, February 5, at the Greater Muskegon Woman’s Club, 280 W. Webster Ave.

All proceeds benefit library programs and activities throughout the year. Except for a hiatus last year, Bling Thing raises more than $10,000 annually for Hackley Library.

Attendees can purchase jewelry, purses, scarves, and other items donated by the community. Estate sale professional Sherry Kelley has given her time and expertise for many years to help assess and price donated jewelry.

On Friday, February 4, a $10 donation at the door includes wine, chocolates and an opportunity to shop from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The sale continues 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, February 5. The floor will close at noon and reopens at 12:15 p.m., when everything will be discounted 50 percent. Biggby Coffee will provide complimentary coffee and hot chocolate.

“The Board and Members of the Greater Muskegon Woman’s Club are so excited to host Bling Thing this year,” said Woman’s Club Immediate Past President Nancy Bierenga. “Education has been our primary focus since we were founded in 1890. While there have been significant variations on that focus over the years, the dedication has never varied. Joining with the Friends of Hackley Library for this significant event is a dream come true for us and we want to encourage everyone to join us in this support.”

An active group of community volunteers, the Friends of Hackley Public Library supports free programs for children and adults at the library throughout the year. Adult programs focus on history, literature, music, and other topics, as well as technology classes and author visits. The funds also support the annual Charles Hackley Distinguished Lecture in the Humanities held each spring.

Friends has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars to enhance and restore areas throughout the 131-year-old historic building.
