Judge Matthew Sabaugh, who has served on the 37th District Court bench for more than 13 years, has announced his candidacy for Macomb County Circuit Court.
He is seeking the seat being vacated by Judge Carl Marlinga, who is prohibited from running for re-election due to his age.
Sabaugh recently filed nominating petitions with the Secretary of State for the Aug. 6 primary.
“My experience makes me ready to get to work quickly clearing the circuit court’s backlog of cases from the pandemic,” Sabaugh said in a press release issued this week. “Litigants and the public should be assured that the courts will remain open and justice will not be delayed.”
Sabaugh is presiding judge of the Warren-Center Line Treatment Court, which includes Drug Court and Sobriety Court programs.
He pledged to work to “continue to find innovative ways to address problems. For instance, starting a program to treat the underlying causes of domestic violence, aiming to rehabilitate offenders and protect victims and their children.”
“With over 13 years in the district court,” Sabaugh said, “I have built my reputation as a fair and impartial judge who is dedicated to providing justice for all.”
Prior to being appointed to the district court bench in 2008, Sabaugh served eight years as a county assistant prosecutor.
