Attorney Kerene S. Moore announces candidacy for Michigan Court of Appeals seat

Attorney S. Kerene Moore has announced her candidacy for the upcoming open seat on Michigan’s Third District Court of Appeals being vacated by Judge Sawyer at the end of 2022.

Moore is currently a judicial attorney in the Washtenaw County Circuit Court, and has previously served as an attorney for the Michigan Department of Civil Rights and Legal Services of S. Central Michigan, where she has represented over 1,000 low-income Michigan residents.

Moore currently is serving as vice Chair of the Ann Arbor District Library Board Trustees and as a supervising attorney for Outreach with Michigan Law’s Outlaws, a project she founded. She has also served on the Ann Arbor Human Rights Commission and the boards of the Jim Toy Community Center and Equality Michigan. Her commitment to public service has earned her several awards, including the Washtenaw County Bar Association’s MLK “I have a dream” award and the University of Michigan Law School’s Kevin E. Kennedy Pro Bono Award.

The Michigan Court of Appeals hears appeals from decisions of lower courts throughout the state. While Court of Appeals judges sit statewide, they are elected from four districts in Michigan. The Third District of the Michigan Court of Appeals includes the counties of Allegan, Barry, Berrien, Calhoun, Cass, Eaton, Ionia, Jackson, Kent, Mason, Montcalm, Muskegon, Oceana, Ottawa, Van Buren, and Washtenaw.
