MAJ lauds appointment of Sima Patel to the Michigan Court of Appeals

LANSING —The Michigan Association for Justice (MAJ) Executive Board is proud to support attorney Sima Patel in her new seat on the Michigan Court of Appeals. The appointment was announced on Feb. 3 by Governor Gretchen Whitmer. This judicial seat was previously occupied by the late Jonathan Tukel. MAJ President Ron Weiner made the announcement.

“MAJ is proud to support Sima Patel, a highly respected appellate lawyer and one of the brightest minds in the legal field,” Weiner said. “We can’t wait to see the change and drive she brings to the Michigan Court of Appeals in her new role."

Patel has been an active member of MAJ for over a decade and currently serves on the MAJ Executive Board. She is also a vital member of the association’s Amicus Committee—which works year-round to write amicus briefs, track cases going through the courts, and provide advice to MAJ members with cases heading to appeals. Patel is an attorney at Fieger Law, located in Southfield.

Patel graduated magna cum laude from the Thomas M. Cooley School of Law in 2005. She served a judicial externship with Justice Elizabeth A. Weaver of the Michigan Supreme Court, and, following graduation, was offered a clerkship with Justice Weaver, where she participated in the inner mechanics of Michigan’s highest appellate court.

We offer our congratulations and best wishes to Judge Sima Patel as she embarks on her important job as Judge of the Michigan Court of Appeals.
