‘Ethics of Outsourcing Legal Work’ discussed in WLAM webinar

The Women Lawyers Association of Michigan will present the webinar “Ethics of Outsourcing Legal Work” on Thursday, April 7, beginning at noon.

Legal outsourcing is used by 79 percent of law firms and 71 percent of corporate law departments, though less by smaller firms (according to a 2021 Thomson Reuters study). Presenters Patrice Asimakis of LegalEase Solutions LLC, Jeremy Babener of Structured Consulting, and Mary Ellen Murrah of Vista Consulting Team will identify what attorneys need to know about outsourcing, how to use it, and how to avoid malpractice traps, including:

• How the ABA and state bar associations have applied ethical rules in the context of outsourcing legal services and support

• What ethical standards attorneys must satisfy when reviewing outside work, protecting client confidentiality, and charging for outside services

• How to choose, manage, and effectively use outsourced legal services with these ethical standards in mind

• How your firm can outsource legal research and writing in a financially beneficial way

They’ll also cover other services regularly outsourced by law firms to keep their focus on cases and increase profit margins.

ABA looks at ‘The Role of Corporate Counsel in Access to Justice’ April 14

The American Bar Association will present a webinar on “The Role of Corporate Counsel in Access to Justice” Thursday, April 14, beginning at 1 p.m.

Across the United States, the justice gap remains. Thousands of individuals and families with civil legal problems cannot access the help they need to navigate the legal system. This panel aims to provide attendees with examples of how corporate counsel can help the pro bono community.

While many communities have a robust legal aid network, there are not enough legal aid attorneys to meet the need alone. Pro bono legal services are thus a critical component in closing the access to justice gap. Corporate counsel are an essential part of the pro bono community and this program will explore the ways in which these attorneys can and have helped to close the justice gap.

At the end of this program attendees will have a greater understanding of the access to justice challenges faced by low-income individuals and families.
