Western Michigan University Cooley Law School’s Homeland and National Security Emergency Response and Education Association hosted a clothing and bedding drive to assist Ukrainian refugees in Poland. The association, which is led by Homeland and National Security Law LL.M. students Katie Komorowski and Shartel Keith-Groves, was able to collect 28 boxes of coats, socks, and bedding.
The purpose of the effort was to offer support to refugees fleeing Ukraine for safety in Poland during Russia’s invasion of that country. The donations were part of an established connection with the Church of the Nazarene in Traverse City, Michigan, that has direct ties in Poland to help refugees.
The Church of Nazarene is a collection site for goods to be shipped to a sister church in Poland to help Ukrainian refugees. WMU-Cooley’s 28 boxes will be added to the church's next shipment later this week. Some 600 boxes have already been sent to Poland.
WMU-Cooley’s Homeland and National Security Emergency Response and Education Association provides a ready response team of trained law students that are able to give back in times of national crisis, or assist local communities during an emergency disaster.
