Webinar examines interaction of family and immigration law

The Friend of the Court Bureau (FOCB) and the Michigan Judicial Institute (MJI) will present the webinar “Interaction of Immigration and Family Law: Session II ” on Thursday, April 28, from 9 to 10 a.m. via Zoom.  

The session will examine ways in which interactions with family service and child protection systems create both opportunities and dangers for immigrant families and will identify principles for approaching the complex interaction of family and immigration law.

To register, visit https://mjieducation.mi.gov and click on “events.” Once registration is approved by MJI, attendees will receive a confirmation e-mail from Zoom with a personal link to join the webinar.


Barristers’ Ball set for April 30

The Wolverine Bar Association and the Wolverine Bar Foundation are announcing  the return of the Barristers’ Ball, set for Saturday, April 30, in the Detroit Marriott Renaissance Center Ballroom.

The event is the signature fundraiser for the Wolverine Bar Foundation.

Since its inception, the foundation has awarded thousands of dollars in scholarships to area law students, fostered attorney participation in pro bono activities aimed at benefiting the public, and sponsored community outreach programs and seminars on legal issues designed to improve the quality of life in the communities where members practice.

Deadline approaching for SBM election nominating petitions

State Bar of Michigan lawyers are advised that the following elections will be held in June:?

  • A statewide election for a?non-judicial?member of the Judicial Tenure Commission?
  • Elections for 68 members of the Representative Assembly in 40 judicial circuits?
  • Elections for seven members of the Board of Commissioners in five commissioner districts?
  • Elections for members of the Young Lawyers Section Executive Council in three districts?

Vacancy information and nominating petitions are available?in?the?2022?State Bar of Michigan Election Notice, which also was published in the March 2022 issue of the?Michigan Bar Journal.
Petitions must be filed with the State Bar no later than Saturday, April 30.
