Hundreds of children, families to plant pinwheels at state capitol event

The Children’s Trust Fund within the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) has scheduled its 14th annual Child Abuse Prevention Awareness Day Rally today at the State Capitol Building in Lansing.

The rally, scheduled to start at 11 a.m., encourages Michigan residents to do what they can to protect children from abuse and neglect.

It will culminate in the planting of pinwheels near the State Capitol.

The pinwheel is the national symbol of child abuse and neglect prevention. Gov. Gretchen Whitmer has proclaimed April Child Abuse Prevention Month.

Rally speakers include Lt. Gov. Garlin Gilchrist II; MDHHS Director Elizabeth Hertel; Suzanne Greenberg, executive director of the Children’s Trust Fund; and Amy Tattrie Loepp, Children’s Trust Fund board chair.
