About 100 people participated in the 32nd annual Macomb Community Action Walk for Warmth earlier this year.
The event, which was held virtually Feb. 20-26, raised funds to help low-income individuals pay for heating bills, furnace repairs, furnace replacements and other heat-related emergencies.
“Year after year, residents and businesses prove that Macomb County is a community that cares for those in need,” said Ernest Cawvey, director of Macomb Community Action. “The funds raised from this event make a real difference in community members’ lives. We couldn't do the good work that we do at Macomb Community Action without all of this support from Macomb residents and our partners.”
This year’s Walk for Warmth was supported by sponsors Genisys Credit Union, Consumers Energy and San Francesco Church.
Since it began, the event has raised over $775,000 to help ensure that local families can stay warm in their homes throughout the winter. In 2021 alone, the event helped support 20 families.
