The importance of resilience; the status of name, image and likeness laws; and cybersecurity are among the topics that will be discussed at the American Bar Association Young Lawyers Division Spring Conference May 5-7 in Atlanta.
In addition to programming, the division will launch its public service project called Operation: Second Chance, which will feature an expungement clinic on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Ebenezer Baptist Church.
Program highlights include:
•“One Year Later: Examining Today’s NIL (Name, Image and Likeness) Landscape” — Almost a year after Name, Image and Likeness laws went into effect across the country, a panel of experts will examine the current landscape of this historic shift in college sports by evaluating how athletes and key stakeholders have navigated the space since July 1, 2021.
• “CARES Act and PPP Loan Implications in Bankruptcy” — The Paycheck Protection Program was set up to assist distressed business during the COVID-19 pandemic. As the global economy transitions into a post-pandemic normal and distressed companies contemplate restructuring options, the money received by businesses under the PPP will have implications for businesses desiring to restructure. Practitioners serving the needs of business in a post-pandemic economy will need to know what implications PPP has on bankruptcies and restructuring to provide high-quality client services.
• “The Ethics and Best Practices Related to Cybersecurity” — The majority of law is practiced using some form of technology and it is important that when attorneys utilize technology that they are aware of the importance of protecting their data and client data. This panel will discuss ethical requirements when using technology, including email, the cloud and the duty to protect client data. It will provide practical tips on how one can protect their data and prevent cyber theft, including best practices in keeping data secure and preventing phishing and other data breaches.
