Applicants sought to fill district court vacancies

Applications are now being accepted for seats on two district courts:

• Macomb County 37th District Court, Cities of Warren and Center Line, to replace vacating Judge Matthew P. Sabaugh

• Wayne County 36th District Court, City of Detroit, to replace vacating Judge Christopher Blount

To be considered for these positions, applicants must be a State Bar of Michigan member who meets the legal qualifications for these offices. To be appointed, applicants must reside within the judicial district.

A judicial appointment questionnaire, writing samples, resume and supplemental documents must be submitted using the online portal at www.michigan.gov/appointments and received by 5 p.m. on Tuesday, June 14.

Additional letters of recommendation can still be submitted after the initial submission to judicialappointments@michigan.gov.


‘Path to a Diverse Jury Panel’ discussed at NCSC seminar

The National Center for State Courts will present the webinar on “The Path to a Diverse Jury Panel” on Wednesday, June 1, from 1 to 2:30 p.m. via Zoom.

The webinar’s panel will discuss how a jury selection process impacts the goal of achieving a diverse panel and what specific factors have stood in the way of that goal or have helped achieve a more inclusive jury.  

This webinar series is presented by the Blueprint for Racial Justice Systemic Change Work Group.

SADO examines First Amendment issues

The State Appellate Defender Office will present a webinar on “Litigating First Amendment Issues in Criminal Trials and Appeals” Wednesday, June 29, from 3 to 4 p.m. via Zoom.

The session will explore the First Amendment in a criminal trial or appeal when freedom of expression is at issue. Presenting the program will be Matt Monahan, SADO assistant defender.
