SBM section, MAMA schedule annual summer conference

The State Bar of Michigan’s Government Law Section and the Michigan Association of Municipal Attorneys will present the 22nd Annual MAMA/Government Law Section Summer Joint Educational Conference, Friday and Saturday, June 24-25, at the Grand Traverse Resort in Acme.

The conference is the only event designed for government and government sector lawyers that combines national and state legal experts with networking opportunities in northern Michigan.

Agenda highlights include:
  • Making the Invisible Visible: The Science of Implicit Bias, with Jerry Kang, distinguished professor of law, University of California, Los Angeles

  • Equity in the Courts – View from the Bench, with Michigan Supreme Court Justice Elizabeth M. Welch

  • Amicus Committee and Legal Defense Fund Update, GLS Amicus Committee and MML Legal Defense Fund members will update attendees on cases filed, funding, results, and information on access to briefs.

  • SBM Government Law Section Regular Meeting

  • Supreme Court Update, with  James M. Chen, Justin Smith Morrill Chair in Law, professor of law, Michigan State University

  • Panel Discussion – Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, with retired Michigan Court of Appeals Judge Cynthia Diane Stephens, co-chair, Commission on Diversity, Equity and
Inclusion in the Michigan Judiciary; Maya Kobersy, associate general counsel, University of Michigan; Marcileen Pruitt, deputy city attorney, City of Southfield; and moderator Michelle Crockett, chief diversity officer & deputy executive officer, Miller Canfield
