Judges to discuss litigating employment cases in a post-pandemic environment July 14

The Labor &?Employment Law Section of the State Bar of Michigan will conduct the LELS Springboard “From the Bench: Judges Discuss Litigating Employment Cases in a Post-pandemic Environment” on Thursday, July 14, from 4 to 8 p.m. at The Townsend Hotel, 100 Townsend Street in Birmingham.

This year’s LELS Springboard will feature judges and magistrate judges who will offer their perspectives on how COVID-19 and the pandemic may have forever altered the judicial system.

Featured confirmed speakers include:

• U.S. District Court Chief Judge Sean F. Cox, Eastern District of Michigan

• U.S. District Court Judge Nancy Edmunds, Eastern District of Michigan

• U.S. District Court Executive Magistrate Judge David Grand, Eastern District of Michigan

• U.S. District Court Magistrate Judge Jonathan Grey, Eastern District of Michigan

• Wayne County Circuit Court Judge David Groner

• Washtenaw County Circuit Court Judge Carol Kuhnke

• Genesee County Circuit Court Judge David Newblatt

• U.S. District Court Judge Victoria Roberts, Eastern District of Michigan

• Macomb County Circuit Court Judge Joseph Toia

The seminar portion of the program will consist of three 30-minute roundtable sessions which will allow participants to engage judges and magistrate judges in a discussion on important topics involving labor and employment law cases, including practice pointers for litigating in a post-pandemic environment. 

The judges will offer their perspectives on a myriad of topics, like whether and to what extent it will continue to utilize platforms like Zoom to conduct hearings and conferences.

Check-in for the event will begin at 4 p.m. The program will start at 4:30 p.m. and will be followed by a reception with cocktails and heavy hors d’oeuvres.
