Gov. Gretchen Whitmer this week announced a series of appointments to the Board of Law Examiners and the Commission on Middle Eastern American Affairs.
Earl Johnson of Shelby Township and Brittany Schultz of Birmingham have been appointed to the Board of Law Examiners.
Johnson is associate general counsel for North American Bancard. He earned his bachelor of arts in political science and juris doctor degree from Wayne State University. Johnson is appointed for a term commencing July 1 and expiring June 30, 2027. He succeeds Eric Pelton whose term expires June 30, 2022.
Schultz is in-house counsel for Ford Motor Co. She earned her bachelor of arts in psychology from the University of Michigan and her juris doctor degree from Wayne State University Law School. Schultz is appointed for a term commencing July 1 and expiring June 30, 2024. She succeeds Candice Moore, who has resigned.
The Board of Law Examiners is responsible for the investigation and examination of all persons who initially apply for admission to the State Bar of Michigan.
Four area attorneys have been appointed to the Commission on Middle Eastern American Affairs.
Zane S. Hatahet of Chelsea is legal counsel for Magna Electronics, Inc. He holds a bachelor of arts in history and juris doctor degree from the University of Michigan. Hatahet is appointed for a term commencing June 21 and expiring April 19, 2026. He succeeds Manal Saab whose term expired April 19.
Haley A. Jonna of Keego Harbor is a co-owner of Pillar Construction Co. and a developer and project manager for Jonna Properties. She is a member of the board of directors of the Chaldean American Chamber of Commerce and the Chaldean Community Foundation. She holds a bachelor of science in business administration and marketing from Oakland University and a juris doctor degree from Wayne State University Law School. Jonna is appointed for a term commencing June 21 and expiring April 19, 2026. She succeeds Michael Romaya whose term expired April 19.
Alexandra Nassar of Grand Blanc is an attorney and owner of Alexandra Nassar, PLLC. She is the president of the Arab American Heritage Council and holds a bachelor of arts in history and political science from the University of Michigan-Flint and a juris doctor degree from Cooley Law School. Nassar is appointed for a term commencing June 21 and expiring April 19, 2023. She succeeds succeeding Nabeel Obeid, who has resigned.
Suzanne K. Sukkar of Ypsilanti is an attorney at Dickinson Wright. She received her bachelor of arts in political science and Spanish from the University of Michigan and juris doctor degree from Wayne State University Law School. Sukkar is reappointed for a term commencing June 21 and expiring April 19, 2026. Ms. Sukkar has served as the chair of the Commission since 2021 and she will continue serving as chair.
The Commission on Middle Eastern American Affairs advises the Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity and the Governor on issues relating to the Arab and Chaldean communities in Michigan and promotes awareness of their culture and history. They also work to empower, promote, and advance the Middle Eastern American community in Michigan.
These appointments are not subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
