ABA program to explore the changing face of the federal judiciary July 28
Four experts and a prominent legal journalist will join American Bar Association President Reginald Turner on Thursday, July 28, to discuss how new federal judges are changing the federal judiciary.
The one-hour online webinar – “The Changing Face of the Federal Judiciary: Is it Permanent or Temporary?” – coincides with the release of the 2022 ABA Profile of the Legal Profession, an annual compilation of statistics and trends among lawyers, judges and law students.
New to the report this year is a lengthy statistical look at the changing federal judiciary. Many more women and lawyers of color have been appointed to the federal bench by President Joe Biden, but some courts remain nearly all-white and nearly all-male.
The panel will include:
• Benes Aldana – President of the National Judicial College and former chief trial judge of the U.S. Coast Guard
• Tomiko Brown-Nagin – Dean of the Harvard Radcliffe Institute and author of “Civil Rights Queen,” a biography of Judge Constance Baker Motley
• Rob Saunooke – Co-chair of ABA Judicial Clerkship Program and former president of the National Native American Bar Association
• Russell Wheeler – Visiting fellow at the Brookings Institution and an authority on presidential judicial appointments
Moderating the program will be Kimberly Atkins Stohr, Boston Globe columnist and NBC contributor.
The program will be from noon to 1 p.m. on Thursday, July 28, via Zoom. Registration is required to attend. To register, visit www.americanbar.org and click on “events.”

Attendees will be able to buy voting tickets at the event to determine whether the bench or bar wins the competition.
Tickets are $75 per person and include food, wine, and beer. Pre-registration is required. To register, visit https://womenlawyers.org and click on “events.”
